 ADOS Course Description

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) has become the standard instrument for assessing autism and PDD across age, developmental level, and language skills. Western Psychological Services (WPS) offers 2-day workshops where you will learn how to use the ADOS in clinical practice to assess and diagnose autism. Our expert training staff will describe the ADOS and demonstrate administration and scoring, operationalizing DSM-IV/ICD-10 diagnostic criteria for Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders not Otherwise Specified. Instructional methods include lecture, live demonstration of administration and scoring, videotaped administration, and discussion. Participants have the opportunity to practice scoring while observing the instructor administer the ADOS to a child.

UMACC ADOS Workshops

The University of Michigan Autism and Communication Disorders Center (UMACC) offers ADOS workshops that are equivalent
to the WPS-sponsored workshops.
To register visit the UMACC web site directly at:
www.umaccweb.com

Cost
Workshop cost is $369.00 for the complete 2-day course, including the registration packet described below. Participants are encouraged to register at least 3 weeks prior to the workshop to allow enough time to order the ADOS manual and review the DVD and booklets included in the registration packet.

Late Registration: Registrations received within 15 days of the workshop start date are subject to a $35.00 late registration fee.
Participants

These workshops are designed for both clinicians and researchers.

For clinicians with a prior background in autism and formal testing this 2-day workshop is sufficient to support use of the ADOS to diagnose autism and autism spectrum disorders. Physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists will be better prepared to make educational placement decisions and evaluate programs after completing the workshop.

Individuals with less background in testing but who provide service for individuals and families affected by autism may take the workshop for informational purposes.

For researchers, this workshop is prerequisite to more thorough training offered by the ADOS authors and designed to achieve the high cross-site inter-rater reliability required in published research.

Confirmation and Registration Packet
Registrants will receive written confirmation and a registration packet that includes a DVD showing two ADOS administrations (different modules), Observation/Coding Booklets, directions to the course site, and hotel suggestions. A second DVD is provided at the end of the course to reinforce skills learned. Participants should familiarize themselves with the DVD and booklets in preparation for the course. If 2 weeks prior to the course you have not yet received a written confirmation, please contact WPS at 800-648-8857.
Discounts

Organizations registering 5 or more people qualify for a 10% discount off total registration cost as long as all registrations are paid with one credit card authorization or check.

Call WPS at (800) 648-8857 for more information on this discount.

Required Materials
Participants are required to bring their ADOS Manual to the workshop. All other materials will be provided, free of charge, prior to or at the workshop.
Continuing Education Credit

Upon completion you will receive a certificate of completion that is equivalent to 12 CE Credits of professional continuing education credit. WPS is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. In addition, WPS is an American Occupational Therapy Association Approved Provider of continuing education. (The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA.) The National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) has approved the WPS CE course offering. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences has authorized WPS to offer continuing education for marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed educational psychologists (Provider Number PCE2790). Western Psychological Services (WPS) is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) to offer continuing education for school psychologists. WPS maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

If you plan to apply for CE credit from an organization other than APA, AOTA, NASP, NAADAC, or the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, please check with that organization to find out whether it accepts CE units accredited by the above organizations.
